These are some of the world’s most famous caves. Rain or shine, you can discover thousands of illuminating glowworms, both above and below ground. Choose from a boat ride through the caves and uncover thousands of bright lights, or follow the winding spiral entrance into the Ruakuri Cave. This is one of New Zealand’s top attractions, so make sure you don’t miss out.
Located just 2-minutes from the centre of Hamilton, you will find this garden paradise. Park up your campervan for the day, enjoy the grounds and indulge in a picnic from the Gardens café. The gardens have even won awards and are voted by us as a must-see while on the road.
This is something that the big kids will enjoy too. On this adventure, take a guided tour around the 12 acre set, see the home of the hobbits and visit the world famous movie set. Here, you will experience the real Middle-Earth.
Get lost in some of New Zealand’s most spectacular wildlife. This sanctuary is home to birds, bats, reptiles and giant weta. It stretches across 3,400 hectares, and has the largest pest-proof fence at 47km in length. There are always plenty of events for the kids to enjoy too!
The Rotorua Gondola offers spectacular views overlooking the city, Lake Rotorua and geysers. There is plenty of room for the entire family and friends in the eight-seater Gondola. Once you arrive at the top, jump onto the world famous luge and glide your way down the scenic track and through the Redwoods Forest. This is plenty of fun for the entire family.
If you and the family have a love for the great outdoors, then this is for you! Just a short drive from Rotorua’s city centre, you can spend the day experiencing New Zealand’s greatest tree-walk. The attraction has 28 bridges suspended from the trees, and sits 20-metres above the forest floor. The tree-walk has also been carefully designed to preserve the natural environment. This is a great adventure for the entire family.
This is the perfect activity for any weather. Just a short 10-minute drive from the city centre, you will uncover 350-acres of farmland. Here, you can watch the animals perform centre stage, enjoy a guided tour and hand-feed the friendly animals. This is a unique and memorable adventure for all.
When you walk the winding track of the rainbows springs, you will discover some of nature’s best! It is the perfect activity for any weather, with shelter throughout the park. Whakapapa Ski Field offers some of the best skiing in New Zealand. It is also a great place for those learning to ski. Happy Valley offers a beginner slope, where adults and children can build their confidence. For the tiny adventurers, they can spend their day sledding the slopes.
If you would like to get outdoors and into the fresh air, head to the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. The entire track will take 3 hours and is 11km in length. There are shorter parts of the track if you are stuck for time. Along the way, you will come across some of Kaikoura’s most spectacular views, history on the area, and seal colonies. This great activity is free too!
The Kaikoura farmers market run every second Sunday, from April through to November each year. This is a great way to spend your morning and interact with the locals, enjoy the fresh produce, seafood, homemade goods and ceramics. Experience Kaikoura like a local.
